I've tried to read all of what is here, but think my question is not addressed.

I plan to draw retirement benefits only when I am 70. I want the longevity protection, and higher monthly check.
I had some years with zero or low earnings.
I would like to replace some of those years with years when I am 67, 68, 69, 70--and maybe even 72, 73, 74--and earning money.

If I work when I am 72 will ssa count my earnings that year and replace a year with zero?

Even if I am drawing benefits? Or must I wait even after age 70 in order to have the year count toward 1/35 (divided by 12, I know) of PIA?

If the answer is No--then what is the last year my earnings will be counted, and replace a zero year?

Thanks for any help.

Only your highest 35 years of earnings are used in the benefit calculation. Any additional years of work, whether they are in your very young years (i.e. summer jobs while in college) or very old years (i.e. part-time work), or anywhere in between (i.e. partly unemployed or between jobs) are excluded.

I am not an expert on calculating SS benefits. I can only try to point you to locations in the SSA's website which can address your questions.

Try this one.
